Just an update on things with Nate. He became pretty ill a few days ago, not related to diabetes at all, and since then has been completely thrown off. Where he was completely comfortable with the tests and shots, he now is very anxious. He does the blood glucose tests without too much trouble, but the shots again require both Angie and I there to hold him down, which is stressful for both him and us. This step backwards has manifested itself in many ways throughout the family, and there is simply a higher stress level at home now. Short tempers on all sides more than anything else.
Angie thought up a good family home evening lesson for last night, though. We simply created a poster with a turkey on it and for the next few days, we are writing down what we are thankful for on feathers and pasting it to the poster. It helped us have a calm moment last night, which was good for everyone. It's hard to focus on your blessings when things aren't going your way, so this was a good way for us to focus on that for a bit.
Overall, this past week has by far been the hardest, even harder than the initial diagnosis and stay at the hospital. I know it will get better over time, it just makes individual moments really difficult. Nate's health is strong, so we are thankful for that.

Ahh...The things that we endure for our kids. Hope that it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you guys are going through this rough patch. You guys are awesome though. What a great way to refocus.
ReplyDeleteHang In there. Things will get better. If I could stay one thing it would be, GET A PUMP ASAP! Life is so much easier for McKenzie and us. By the way who is his Dr. McKenzie's Mike Swinyard and we love him.
ReplyDeleteTake care and Happy Thankgiving
Nate couldn't have asked for better parents to get him through this!

ReplyDeleteOur doctor is Doctor Murray. We have been very impressed with her. We're a bit early on in this whole process to seriously consider a pump, but we've already discussed it with her and will continue at our next appointment.
Brooklyn's doctor is Dr. Swinyard as well! What an amazing man he is! I really hope things are better now! It sucks doesn't it? Everyone keeps saying it will get better, but I am still waiting.
