8 Year Old Politics

When we were leaving for a family get together yesterday, Natalie sat in a different spot in the car than she usually does. She wasn't sitting in her booster seat and we asked her to move back to her regular spot so that she could sit on the booster. She was upset by that, so we further stated that it was against the law now for her not to sit in the seat. Her very disgruntled and upset reply to us:

"Is that something Obama made up?"

We had a really good laugh over that.

Just to clarify, we have never discussed specifically who we vote for with our children, although we have discussed specific issues that are important to us. So don't think that she has some jaundiced view of our new president from her parents, because that's not where it comes from. Maybe he just seems to her like someone who would pass a law to make 8 year olds' lives harder.

  2. Natalie, we live in a world where little girls are riding dangerously in the back seat of cars. We have hope that some day this will change. It will not be easy, and it may get worse before it gets better. But if we work together, when America sends out the cry, "Can we be safe in the backseat without boosters?" we can proudly answer.....YES WE CAN!

  3. My fifth grader has to answer 100 history questions all Americans should know. Question: Which black American, born a slave, built Tuskagee College for blacks? Robert's answer: Obama.

  5. Too funny. New law, new President. It all makes sense to an 8 year old.
